Why is CRHRA membership so “cheap” compared to other options?

The CRHRA is ran strictly by volunteers with the same passion for horses as the membership. CRHRA is a not for profit association. We do not have any overhead charges or sponsor expensive sport specific shows.

How long is my membership active?

CRHRA Membership term is from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 of the current calendar year.  To keep your insurance coverage active we strongly suggest you renew your membership on or before Jan. 1st. Memberships renewals can be purchased starting November of the previous year.

What provinces is CRHRA active in? 

All Provinces and Territories except Quebec. World Wide Coverage!

How do I purchase a CRHRA membership?

The best way to apply for membership is through the website crhra.ca. Memberships are active immediately.  If you know someone that does not have access to a computer you can print a copy of the printable application and have them mail it to the membership address. 

You can email memberships@crhra.ca or Call (519) 941-6157 to request assistance.

Note: Mailing memberships take much longer to process, please note if you have a deadline you must submit your application at least 3 weeks prior to receive confirmation.

Is CRHRA an insurance company?

No, CRHRA is a "not for profit" association promoting recreational horse enthusiasts across Canada. CRHRA has arranged for insurance as a membership benefit.

What activities do CRHRA Membership Benefits cover?
       
       CRHRA membership covers personal use of horses, minis, mules and       
       donkeys.
CRHRA Member Benefits are widely accepted at most shows, clinics, stables, campgrounds and activities that do not require a sport license.
Covering all other horse events and uses such as Reining, Trail Riding, Games, Pony Club Hunt Club, Barrel Racing, Vaulting, etc.
Our coverage is the same as other available associations.  
 
Are there any exclusions on the Member Benefits?
Important exclusions to note are:1. The member benefit does not respond to any claims arising from or related to the commercial use of the member’s horse, whether owned, leased, rented or borrowed.  The member benefit is for personal use of the horse only.
2. Rough Stock Rodeo events
3. Pari-mutuel Horse Racing, or while on the grounds of a public racetrack
4. Horse Pulls or related activity
5. Commercial Trail Riding to the general public
6. Heavy Horse Pulling  or horses for commercial use or events that require a Sport Licence.
  7. Parades fall under personal use so long as there is no advertising or                compensation received this includes advertising on wagons or buggies.
If I change horses do I have to transfer my membership?
Your member benefit is extended to your horse if you’re a member. Your member benefit applies to you the member for any horse you ride anywhere in the world.

Will I be receiving a confirmation after I complete my application?

CRHRA membership is run by a small team of contracted staffs.  Sometimes it takes a bit of time to process each membership as they are received.  You will receive confirmation in the mail with your membership number.  You can be confident that your insurance is active as soon as your payment has been processed.  Call the membership phone if you need your membership number for event organizers, moving to a new stable, campgrounds, etc.

How many people does a membership cover?

CRHRA does not offer family/group packages.  Every rider needs to have their own membership even if they share a pony/horse. Members under age 18 will need a parent or guardian to process the membership.

When does my BFL Member Benefit lapse? 
The Policy benefit of membership lapses 11:59.59 Dec 31 of each year. It also lapses at age 91 for any member.

Does CRHRA supply member benefits for other horse clubs?

CRHRA is not an insurance company. 
Our member benefits are part of the CRHRA membership package.  If your members require similar benefits they can apply for a  CRHRA membership as long as the activities they participate in does not require a sport license.

Do you offer refunds?

No we unfortunately we cannot offer refunds on any member benefits. 

How do I navigate this website?

There’s so many different styles of web pages on the internet. This sure doesn’t help when  trying to get information. Do you see those three horizontal lines in the top left hand corner? Click on them. This is the icon to open the sidebar menu.

How do I receive the Newsletters?

An email address must be provided in order to receive the newsletter. We do not sell or share email addresses or personal information. Our Newsletter is an internal operation.

What kind of coverage do I get with a membership?

Basic Membership to CRHRA includes 2 Member Benefits:

  • $5,000,000 Personal Liability Benefit for non-commercial use of a horse owned, rented, leased or borrowed by the member.
  • $30,000 Accident, Death and Dismemberment Benefit

Providing a lump sum benefit and some reimbursement of expenses if a member 90 years of age or younger suffers accidental death or dismemberment during equine related activities. Members over 90 are not covered for Death and Dismemberment. Coverage is World Wide.
